AnimeFest 2016 Pictures

Since I lost all of the photos last year, I figured I better redeem myself this year. I went with a flash bracket, new lens and new speedlight. AnimeFest was a lot of fun this weekend with my daughter and three of her friends. I also got to replenish my Pokeball supply. ūüėČ

AnimeFest (2013) Pictures

I’m heading to AnimeFest this weekend with my daughter and a couple of her friends. I love the people watching, portrait/candid photo ops and all of the great costumes. I plan to take a ton of pictures this year, but wanted to show off some of the ones I grabbed two years ago¬†for the few hours I was there.

Going Quantum

I’ve been a happy Verizon FiOS customer for about 10 years now (as soon as it was available in my neighborhood). We were the second area in Texas behind Keller to have it rolled out with all new infrastructure. I started out with what I think was a 10/5 (10Mbps download, 5Mbps upload) plan way back then, and was blown away by the speed.

About two years back we upgraded to HD TV channels and got a bandwidth bump to 50/50 and shortly thereafter Verizon bumped me to 75/75. They consistently deliver more than what I am paying for as evidenced by the SpeedTest I took today.

I decided to upgrade to Quantum TV service this week and had a box of goodies arrive yesterday. Included was the new “FiOS Quantum Gateway” aka, the G1100 router.

Photograph Case Mods (In the dark)

HDR image

I’ve had the question asked how I end up with these shots in a very dark room. Another common question is how do I avoid blowing the shot out with the glare of the bright lights most systems have? The answer to both question is the voodoo photography magic called HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.

The simplified version is this:

  1. Use a tripod.
  2. Take multiple shots at different exposures.
  3. Combine the shots into an HDR image.

Yeah, that was probably too simplified… so…

My Corsair 650D Red & Black Build Log

To make it accessible to a new group of folks, I am posting a link to by build log from 2012/2013.

Go to overclock.net for the complete build log.

Here is a preview showing how the system looked at that time with vinyl lines instead of hard acrylic as it now has.
